Anyone have any tips on materials/techniques for doing wooden planks that show grain (eg Corpse Cart Base and Trebuchet)

I've got an idea for a themed army, but I'll need to do a lot of planks.

You could try icecream sticks.

buy a couple of dozen ice creams, bring them to the club meeting on sunday and we'll all help you get the useless ice cream off them for you  Grin

use any thing if a wood grain like balsa wood or ice sticks, then use a wood stain to bring it out or washes, balsa is good at soaking up paint.

Any material you get will likely not have the grooves in it that make it look like wood that is really small. To make the grooves, get a fine ballpoint pen and draw lines on your material. Press harder than you usually do. Cut the material to shape and it should have the wood grain effect you want.

You should be able to use any material you would normally use like card or something.

if you are looking at bases, we are making a planking set at the moment. the round versions are already out, and the squares should be out in the next month or so.
