Hi guys, I couldnt help myself and purchased Space Hulk when it came out. I've only just started painting the first figure but thought that I might as well have a thread about my WIP Progress:

I decided to start with Brother Claudio and his lightning claws. The first thing I noticed about the miniatures is the mold lines; or rather the lack of them. You can tell that GW has put quite a lot of effort into them and it does show. There are a couple of problems, mainly with the chains, but overall I was really impressed with the starting product.

Day One: I used the Éavy Metal article in the latest WD as a guide for Claudio. Unfortunately I thought my starting base color was a little to dark and thus the final highlights are to bright in comparison, likewise my first layer of highlights is a little to small and it hasn't created the right blend effect but overall I like how it looks. I think a few glaze's of Baal red might tone down the final highlight...

Day two: The metallics were my next stage, I've always liked how metallics balance out a miniature if used properly and these miniatures have excellent extras and iconography. Before I started though I applied two more glazes of a watered down Baal Red, this succeded in toneing down the highlights and gave it a bit more healthy red, rather than rust red. The gold is my normal procedure, but I did use a mix of burnished gold and vomit brown for the final highlight which emphasized the gold around things, I think I'll be using that again in the future...

I was in a bit of a rush when I took the photo so the face is a touch out of focus, but I haven't really done anything there yet... Cheesy

Thanks guys Smiley

HA! I thought some nice square bases would be the way to go; so they stand a little better. I might think about it later on when I've finished the lot of them Smiley

I've really got to question why this terminator has been beating down on humans. He's festooned with humie skullz!... where are the Genestealer skull trophies?

They also appear to be made of brass or some similar material so maybe they were just on sale when he was purchasing the required number of items of "flair".

Well, after a rather hectic few weeks I finally managed to complete Brother Claudio... HE was giving me the evils every time I walked past my painting desk so over the weekend I sat down to complete him. There are a couple of imperfections, especially with the gems, but as I have a cast on my arm I'm happy with the outcome...

Looking really good man, I'm just starting the process of painting a terminator squad myself.

Can you give me a run down of how you painted Terminator Crux, I like that dirty bone colour.

Only thing that stands out to me is the highlights on the backs of the legs appear a little strong compared to the rest., I'll be really happy if mine turn out like that Smiley

Thanks dude. As for  the reason why the back highlights don't look quite as good as the front is that I was lazy and used pure color instead of mixing... I knew it wouldn't fool other painters but most people don't even realize Cheesy

For the bone Crux (Or any bone really):

Basecoat
- 1:1 mix of Dheneb Stone and Bleached Bone. Water it down a touch. You'll need a couple of coats.
- Give it several coats of Ogryn Flesh Wash, making sure the recesses are filled.
- Highlight with Bleached Bone.

Quick and Easy...

Excellent! I like nice and easy paint jobs, thanks for that.

Those GW washes are great time savers and the effect is good, I knew I should have just bought the entire set of them from the start Smiley

Yeah in terms of actual gaming I don't think you would really notice the stronger highlight.

Dave i would say no to that comment, it is not that good. It is one out my seven washes i use the least, and i use about 5 different washes for a marine and 7 for my nids. I never got on the mud band waggon and i wont start, i only use it for skulls and even then i use it as a base wash and then use another over the top of that. Its like saying you dont need highlights on a model it just bull s**t

in serious mode now, i'll counter your opinion of devlan mud because that's all i use for my nids.  sure i'll bet your nids will end up looking a lot nicer than mine, but i'm going for speed because i only have limited time at any given time to work on my 'horde' army.  keeping things simple works for me, and so long as my army looks neat and tidy on the table i'm happy

won't be winning any painting comps off course Tongue i'll just settle for my shelf of sportsmanship awards Sad

i might break away and try to take more care if i ever get around to doing my daemon army, but i'm contemplating dipping those.  even more eat-arse and corner-cutting Cheesy

Dude that is quick, it takes me that long just to put 3 base coats on my terminators!

I'm gonna be picking up devlan mud soon to make boots and tank tracks look a little dirty, it is a nice wash Smiley

well i'm not counting drying time, obviously it takes longer, considering basing and under-coating

but time spent actually painting, yeah you can blat through things fairly quickly once you learn to paint between the lines

nah jokes, sure we can compare if you want- i think we're trying to achieve different things, so its always interesting to see what can be done with different methods and materials
