Looks like they'll be much easier to rank up than the current models.

I heard Skaven is going to be lizardmen of 2010, I think it is better to just go for ogres or beastmen..

No need to compare, it'll just be the newest book and therefore more broken by half than its previous incarnation. This is WFB.

Warriors of Chaos.

Although this raises a semi-important issue. I might have to switch to a different army to avoid looking like a "Flavour of the Month" player.

Sometimes even GW can hit the bullseye of balance, according to meatloaf 2/3 aint bad but Deamons, DE, Vamps, Lizards... WoC. Slightly off Meatloaf's Average Tongue

There is a pic of the army book up in warseer.

But quite a lot of rumors related to the army itself:
Here are some of them which really shocked me.

1.   Stormvermin, S4, ASF, cause fear.
2.   Rat ogre, reroll all psyh, stubborn
3.   all weapon teams can hide in a unit, like goblin fanatics or dark elf assassin, can shoot when pop out. The unit can then charge! WTF!
4.   Poison wind globadiers, d6 hits PER hit, and u think daemon flamers are broken..
5.   Jezzails, sniper champ, pick out characters
6.   plague monks, core, frenzy, hatred, poison attacks.
7.   when u think hrdya is broken, there is new rare, GIANT RAT (similar to hydra), have reg, stubborn, TUNNEL, charge ANY direction when pop out, Unit str 5!!!
8.   Warlock, warp lightning now str 6 and not str 5.
9.   Vermin lord, (lvl 4 wizard, greater demon)

And a new banner, Sacred standard of the horned rat, cause fear, unit unbreakable while outnumber the enemy

Army special rule: + 2 CR for outnumbering.

1. Of course, ASF is the new black.
2. Imminently believable if they are leadership 5 or 6.
3. Broken.
4. Broken except it's a thrown weapon (less range) and I can imagine a fluffed throw being D6 wounds on the Globadier's unit.
5. Believable (like the Empire Handgunner Champion or Engineer)
6. Believable.
7. Broken and stupid but unfortunately quite believable. Sad.
8. Heard the opposite - Warp Lightning str4 and easier to cast.
9. Believable... I miss the Verminlord. He was rad.

The standard is believable - sounds like the sort of thing comparable to the Dark Elf/Vampire 125pt banners.

Special rule - believable and heard plenty about this. Sounds good to me. Bring on the 50-rat units!

I agree, most of this stuff is almost an expected level of pain in terms of a new GW book.  What else is gonna sell new models for them more than a book that not only appeals to people who are already fans of the background, style and models as WELL as the people who just want to beat their friends at warhammer and win tournaments?

from rumors, the guy who is going to write the skaven army book plays LOTR and not warhammer...

and i have no idea why GW would let him do the job..

i am actually quite looking forward fo the new skaven, becuase it is one of the army I have never played before. (or maybe once or twice)

'Bits and Bobs in the Warhammer compendiums" is adequate qualification to write an army book solo now?  Undecided

some more rumors:

Skaven Magic is getting a big update, 13 spells in total and the highest casting cost of a single spell so far (even greater than Lord Kroak's spell). Includes a new complex and costy spell, that transforms a 5+ unit into a Vermin Lord (with lots of 5s in his statline, wielding a greatweapon, 5+ wardsave, large target, terror, stubborn, different rumours of it being a spell caster or not). All gray seers will know the skitterleap spell as standard. Grey Seer now knows all spells w unlimited Warpstones. Warplightning is S5 or S4 but it's only 1D6.

Weapon Teams
A total of 5 different weapon teams (maybe including new ‘lightning gun’ weapon team, as warp lightning but in the shooting phase; then a mortar thingy which shoots poisoned globes 24"; plus a HTH whirly blade thingy with impact hits plus random attacks). Can hide in clan rat, stormvermin and nightrunner units, are forced out if an enemy unit gets in 10" reach or the hiding unit flees (-2 save). Ratling gun is D6 shots, S4 or S5 and shots 2D6 when panicked. Move and shoot unit. Modelwise either repackaging in boxes or included in clan rat box.

Giant rats
mixed unit with Rat Ogres, one Ogre per 12 rats. Without packmaster roll d6 every round: 1-3 stupid, 4-6 frenzied.
Rat Ogres cheaper, other stats and with weapon/ability upgrades, a bit better than before and with an option to 'beef up' the unit even more. (I am not certain from the texts whether Rat Ogres can also be taken without rats).

giant, plague censer contraption
1-2 new Clan Pestilence War machines
'Plague Furnace' on screaming bell base, included in kit, basically giant censer pushed by plague monks with impact hits as well and poisoned fumes etc.), as seen on the cover.
Then a plague catapult (low strenght hits but no armour saves from them)
I am not sure if those two are the same.

New big burrowing rat monster ("Hellpit abomination")
New metal model on chariot base. Can be configured cc or shooty. US5, regeneration, stubborn, causes terror, may tunnel and charge in any direction on turn it appears. Other units may follow tunnel, but may get eaten

And the new rats will be released in boxed sets of ten models like Empire troops?

LOL  That'd be worth watching skaven players scream in wallet-pain.

I'm being facetious - but I wouldn't be suprised.

If that happened, it'd cost me $540 to replace all my clanrat/slave models. And as many days weeks to paint.
