Games H.Q.
«

July 27, 2009, 12:51:17 PM »
Gidday,
Chris - the bloke I play Wings of War with at the club - told me that there was a NEW shop in New Lynn called Games H.Q.
Anyone heard of it before?
It is located behind Kitchen Studio; it is a bit hard to find as THEY HAVE NO SIGN!
Go down behind Kitchen Studio and there is a grey metal door which leads up stairs; if it is open, they are open... if it is closed like the first time I went there, then you won't find it as THEY HAVE NO SIGN!
They have Magic and 40K for sale and about three or four tables.
I asked how long they have been operating and the happy Chinaman replied "two years." He then told me that hardly anyone knows about the place as "We don't have a sign."
I asked why they don't have a sign and well... I was met with a vacant, blank look.
They have quite a number of chaps who meet on Tuesday at about six to play.
So there you go.

Actually yeah I have heard of this one before, one of my workmates used to play Magic there before his $4,000+ deck got stolen along with his laptop from the back of his car
Apparently they are a friendly bunch, I might go with him when he starts playing again and can let people know what it's like there, I think he knows one of the people running the place, I'll post if I get anymore relevant info from him.

a "Chinese guy" would suffice. Haven't heard the term Chinaman being used since 1995.

Yeah
so if I am Chinese and politely states I don't like certain terms I am overreacting? Did I actually accuse Lezle of anything in the original post?

Crikey!
I was going to use "chink" too.
Chinese guy!? Golly, you'd better not say "guy" to mean any person you're to afraid to call by their nationality to my neighbour Guy, he might get really upset that his name is being used in - what you might call - a derogatory way!
P.C. bollocks can go to Hell.

Right... I politely made my comment without accusing you of racism, and you come back with this cliched "PC Gone mad" response. You just made this whole issue abit different now mate.

Not to mention the next time you get you jap car serviced I'll make sure you get crappy european parts tha'll F#%K ya ...lol.
Use the right term and avoid crap discussions like this, and I just love how we get moderated in this forum...hummm.

haven't we all heard a term/name been used about ourselves or someone that can be considered offending. allot of the times it go over our heads that it can be offending. and over reacting doe's nothing but get blood boiling.
@kittenslayer you were not overacting
people should READ a thread properly before reacting(p.c gone mad my arse read some history and find out why chinaman is derogatory)
and i to am amazed at where this thread is going or has gone

Alright, settle down - all of you.
No offence was meant by any of my posts. I'm not that sort of person.
If I had a cry at every time I was called a name like Pakeha, honky and when I was at school, Round Eye by men from China!
I probably would not be able to get up in the morning.
This thread is - or should that be was? - about games H.Q. I would like to suggest that all this bollocks of name calling, finger pointing, P.C. stick waving, history reading etc, be left out.
After all, what has it all to do with table top battle games?

looking at my post now it looks like i over reacted as well
and i'm sorry if it seemed i was doing any finger pointing.
to get back on task, i have heard of this shop, although the friend who told me about it had never been there himself. spent an hour looking for it about a year ago. maybe its secret location is its charm, some of you may remember the first time finding MARK ONE in the city hidden down all thouse stairs.shining in all its red glory i struggled to find that at first.it became heaven once it was found(que dramatic musical score) my own place of geekdom, where others understood me.(ahem!) although i would have been about 12-14 at the time i used to spend hours down there.......wh
y did mark one leave the city?,there used to be one in wellington as well.....it too, gone
