40k Armies in Tournaments

I was wondering what the distribution of armies in tournaments most often is?
eg 60-70% SM (or just MEQ)
And what 40k armies do you guys at City Guard use most?

Gidday Alex,
I've been using Black Templars; I have been playing 40K rather rarely how-ever: most people are using Orks and Marines with quite a few Guard armies appearing.
Deamons, Eldar, Chaos, Tau, Tyranids... all have been presented lately.

at battlecry the vast majority was MEQ with 5 of my six battles against marine armies
and the other one was necron.
high number of Dark Angel players there too, mainly as Deathwing though.

Chalk me up as another MEQ player I suppose, I play Salamander SM with inducted Witch Hunters.
Does anyone play Dark Eldar? from what I've seen in tournament lists they are pretty rare, I though the idea of murderous space pirates would be appealing?

but with a rule book that had a sort of update mid way through 3rd ed, and some of the worst looking models in the whole range....
i want them to be a viable army though, hanging out for jes goodwin's take on their aesthetic, and what they plan to do with the rules. no shadow fields please, one of my last games of 3rd was against dark eldar, and it sucked

Dave Foster runs a very competitive Dark Eldar army at tournaments. I am currently running my Mech-Tau at tournaments and doing ok. The last tourny I was at, I didn't play 1 Marine army in 5 games (of any flavour) although I did end up playing 2 necron armies.
Having said that, I will be using Khorne Beserkers at the Grumpy Daemon.

what tourny was that? the whole reason i started up nid's was because i wanted to try and push the variety of armies at the events i (infrequently) attend, seeing i felt there was none. though it seems i may be alone there...

I was thinking the same thing, I originally wanted to play a Necron army, but every forum I started on told me to start with a SM army as they are cheap and pretty easy to use.
I still hope to build a Necron army at some point, but I am starting to fear behind SM and Chaos SM they are 3rd most common army

i wouldn't say so. necrons tend to be sold of pretty frequently as they across as a very boring army to play with, on the flipside they are easy to paint, and so are great for beginners because of this. but that also means beginners seem to tire of them later on down the track.
but i still reckon they look cool, and should still have merits of their own. with a new codex to drop eventually i'd say you'd be fine to pick them up eventually.

Battle above the Brynderwyns, in Whangarei a couple of weeks ago. From memory there was 3-4 nid armies there
