got ten eldar swooping hawks out of the bits at the club and there was only three sets of wings WTF!!, what to do. MAKE MY OWN. so far they are ok, lost a little detail and will have to model centre 'pack' once the two halves are glued. so far ive used a whole pack of greenstuff and got five sets of wings, thats including making the mould. will put up pictures soon.

oh yeah, forgot to comment on these earlier - they're looking bloody good for a greenstuff mould
that's given me the idea to do the same with a set of gargoyle wings, do you have a tut to reference or just a quick guide as to how to make the mould and then the wings without the green stuff going every where?
shizz, i might even make more tyranid heads like this too

If you are going to make more molds got to hobby city in town and buy some woodlandsinecs ready mold i think it is, you just paint layers over the thing you want to do unitill the mold is as think as you wants then just pull it off and fill with whatever. It is a soft mold so you wants to melt plastic or use plaster or resin in there not green stuff and it will work out heaps cheaper

yeah ive got a pamphlet from some place that does molds and stuff like that, got it at battlecry.
but already had greenstuff and just need 5 sets of wings and a few arms to have a complete eldar army so for such a small project i just used what i had
its really very easy to do this. ive made a the last two sets of wings and they turned out better again so will put up pics soon. the stiffness of the greenstuff seems to be the main factor when getting good results, the harder it is to work and shape the less it stretches when pulled from the mould (this is why my wings look slighty deformed).
step 1.
mix greenstuff and leave to go stiff (an haour to an hour and a half is usually enough)
when the GS is hard enough that it is hard to stretch roll it onto a wet flat surface (book, wood etc)
then press the original into the GS, it wants to be fairly deep, remove original very carefully. leave overnight, maybe even two days to be sure
step 2.
mix green stuff and wait for it to go stiff again. mix a little more than you need for each item as when you press it into the mould there will be some spillage and some excess sticking out of the mould.
put plenty of water in the mould then press the stiff GS into the mould, push hard.
leave some extra hanging out of the mould, then pull the GS out of the mould lay on something flat and wet overnight,
step 3.
trim, glue and paint.

so i can assume that the other side of the wings that we can't see is just flat?
i may give this a go and a bit of stretch shouldn't be an issue, seeing they're tyranid wings after all

i was at his place last week and asked him the same question.
he said "you just glue 2 together" sounded simple when i knew, they looked good and i don't think you'd be able to tell when there painted, i didn't notice and i was holding a set

yeah sorry i didnt explain that part.
make two left and two right wings, this should be flat on the back (fairly flat anyway, a few fingerprints wont make much difference, trim them to the right thickness with a knife. then glue the wings together, two for the right wing two for the left.
i have got all my wings glued already, gunna paint a set tonight hoping to have pics up tomorrow (have to do a trip to the library to upload pics:( )

rad
this is getting me excited, there's no reason i couldn't make a whole bundle of wings like this
though it'd probably be easier with the process Matt mentioned, I'll still give this a hack and see if i can at least churn out three sets of wings.
there's potential there (probably more so with nids, to adapt the shape or size too, by stretching the mould before its set....

i always wanted gargoyles but the models are freaking dear for what your getting, this sounds like a great idea, I've looked at making them before but put it in the too hard basket. I'm sure i need to go past hobby city for work, well i do now anyway
