Bit of a foretaste...  not sure how much I can get done, but anything up to 3 tables.  Still got some painting to do on the army itself yet!

In the meantime here's a look-see.

These are some of the "CNC Workshop" Buildings... they tidy up nicely

First up is the Bretonnian Chapel (at least thats what I'm using it as)

Next up is a cottage that I intend to use for an "Empire" table...  have a couple of these and a large Inn.  Great thing about CNC Workshop Buildings is that each "floor" lifts off so you can actually put models inside the building if need be.  I haven't got round to painting the insides of the buildings as yet as there isn't really a need to at this stage.  I may do that later just for "completeness".

Next is a few shots of one of the shelves here at work I have the terrain I am working on stored on.  You'll see the Inn there as well as a "Bretonnian Lake" and various Woods etc.

And last but definitely not least!  Carry/Display tray that I am working on for my Wood Elf army...  its gonna look "da bomb" when its done (at least, I think so - and don't care what the rest of you think!  LOL )

Still working on just "how" I want to do a few hills...  aiming to have, as I said, up to 3 tables worth of terrain.

Empire (6 pieces)
Inn Done
Cottages x2 Done
Hill
Wooden Fences Done
Wood Done
and either another Hill or another Wood

Bretonnian (6 pieces)
Chapel Done
Lake Done
Wood Done
Wood Done
Ruin Done
Hill

Wood Elf (6 pieces)
Ruin
Wood
Wood
Hill
Wood
unsure as yet... maybe a rocky outcrop or something...

In the future I also want to do another Table's worth of Empire, a Tomb King, and a Chaos Waste as well .

Not making any of them "tooo" themed as on the whole I want them to be interchangeabl e to a degree.

Must say, it has certainly been enjoyable making some of these bits n pieces up - and hopefully a motivation to others to not only paint armies, but to have some nice terrain to go alongside!

That's some really lovely work Phil - those tables are going to look outstanding! Thanks for getting into the spirit of the event so much - disappointed there aren't more players taking to this aspect of the event with as much enthusiasm and verve.

I suspect that many of them are still painting armies, and if its a toss up between new army or terrain when spending $$ I think models often win out...  its understandable I guess.

Can also be a little tricky at times because it all has to be done with a view of being "playable".  Totally sick of not being able to move models properly through terrain pieces aka woods!

All said and done though...  I think the added "extra's" you have put in to the FoB pack in this kinda regard Dave, are most excellent.  Keep up the good work!

Qualifying addition to the statement or not that's very flattering. Here's hoping I don't make you eat your words.

Given the numbers of players, and the work you've done thus far...

Thanks guys,

Yup - the woodland scenics range is awesome, particularly their "rock molds" of which I got a 3rd one the other day.

Their trees are much better priced than most as well, even if a bit "vanila" and less fantastical than some of GW's "Gold Leaf".

Range and types of Woodland Scenic flocks etc are great for giving bases and everything a little point of difference too.

Will post some completed pics once some more things are... completed.  Grin

Any chance of a terrain making day, have people register and pay x amount for supplies, then we come in and each get a pack to make various things (also allowed to bring our own) and then all make terrain on the day with help from the pro's. Just an idea (considering I'm useless at it). . .

Fantasy terrain is relatively easy to build. For hills, you just stack pieces of cardboard and smooth the steps with papier-mâché. Then glue sand to it and paint it like the bases on your minis. For forests, cut out a piece of cardboard/mdf in a shape you like then glue sand to it etc. The trees you can just buy and glue to circles/squares of cardboard.

You can also use plastic lemons and aquarium plants.

Well this is my first "burst" of terrain making...  I learnt a LOT.  I aim to make more in the future and improve on what I have already done (its just like painting models really).

When I have the time there is extra bits n pieces I'd like to do with what I've done thus far...  as is my wont, but I think I've done enough to make it all "fieldable"

Rocky Outcrop - One of the pieces I bought from Ziterdes recently

"The Village" Whilst the Chapel isn't "part" of it really, the aim for this is for it to act as two terrain pieces (2 Houses = 1 and Inn = 1).  The road just ties them together in the middle of the table, and is wide enough for most units to travel down.

Assorted Woods - Yes some of them may look somewhat large... but everything terrain wise comes in under the 12" diameter rule!

My "Free" Wood Elf Wood - appropriately 6" in diameter of course!

"Ruin" - Regiment sized movement tray should fit in the middle easyily.  And if players so choose, the "ruined walls" could act as a defended obstacle (like a stone wall).  Thats the intent at least.

Make it PLAYABLE! - The trees pull out fairly easily (I just hope people have enough brains to not try pulling them out by the foliage and instead grasp the base of the trunks!) enabling regiments to be moved through the woods with relative ease.

6" Wooden Fence Sections - I think I'm the happiest with how these look out of all the terrain.  Easy to make and paint too!

Assorted Hills - and hopefully ones that aren't too hard to balance models on.  Which is usually an issue in particular with "home made" and even non homemade hills!

Wood Elves Go To War!  Nearly completed my army and carry tray.  Few more things to do yet.  One of which depends on whether or not I can find a suitable piece of wood.  No pun intended.

Another view...

And another...

Overall I can add bits to the buildings...  including windows once I find some suitably cheap mesh, and possibly some torch mountings and so on once I dig out and raid one of my bitz boxes...

The hills I think I can improve on, and I think both the hills and the woods would benefit from a second coating of flock.  I want to judge first though how well the pieces survive being "gamed on".  For those of you looking to build terrain I would highly recommend both the Woodland Scenics Manual, and the GW "How to make wargames terrain" book (the latest one, the older one is crap).  The LOTR books also have some amazing looking terrain in them - and tutorials.  I had a good look at all those books over the past couple of days... and whilst too late in some regards for what I have made thus far, I will certainly be putting some of the things into practice in future!

So do I (and I aim to try and challenge your reign next year with my Chaos Warriors  Grin). It all seems to come down to these tournament dates. I'm forever up painting the night before.
