so after battlecry this year i decided to take it upon myself to collect a new army after facing 5 marine armies out of 6 games (though to be fair it should be 4 because i got to match off against tristan's chaos)

luke very kindly dumped our mutual friend's 2nd ed nids on to me and i bought a sizeable force off the ghost player at BC this year, karl, and i was pretty much set.

since then the main projects have been to carve apart a fex to make a big fuk-orf screamer killer, and after much sweat as to whether it'd actually hold together or even if it'd look the part i finished with this:

obviously that's him next to a regular fex torso.

i think he's big enough

and here's what i had of a 2nd ed tyrant.  wanted to bring it into line with the current nid range and make it a flyrant so here's what i started with

and here's how he looks next to the latest tyrant

obviously i made these guys without any regard for the true TLOS so i forsee these guys dying a LOT.

*sigh*

so yeah. to be continued or something...

just boxes for each bug and a shed-load of toilet paper will do the trick.

what i'm more afraid of is the certainty of people knocking it over, sleeves catching on it, grubby little mits fondling my precarious wee conversions... .

suprisingly, the models are actually held together quite firmly.  this has been a n exercise in the merits of actually planning your conversions before hand, because i just made it up as i went.  and my first attempts to attach the carnie to his legs meant he was wobbling on the pins, looking like a great, spikey bobble head.

several pins later and he's pretty secure

Those should look damn fine when you have them all painted up. All these conversion jobs amaze me, I've always been shocking at modeling though.

My sisters and Salamanders should be up for a ruckus in not too long hopefully Smiley Maybe not painted though, that will take some time for me.

as with all things, practice helps.  and its also handy that a munted green-stuff job still looks passable on two armies - nurgle and tyranids.

my own attempts on my dark angels does the trick i think but is still pretty rough.

need to grab more GS off luke anyways Tongue i got two more carnifexes i have some ideas for conversion, and its going to require a lot more of the stuff.

in the meantime i really need to get cracking on all those gaunts and stealers i have Sad  need moar spray undercoat

Hmmm I might give it a shot sometime just for giggles, just something basic to start with, maybe add a lizard head to the end of one of my SM's flamers true Salamander style.

Once I have my latest order from Maelstrom all together and undercoated I'll hit you up, we should have a game, I'm working Sundays currently so I can't actually play at CG for now Sad

eh that's fine man, i really should work on some terrain and sort out a board for games at mine anyways.

sallies would actually be quite easy with a bit of greenstuffing, like just the scales on stuff, or flames on the shoudler pads and leg greaves

not before the hammerhead gets a lictor up its butt!

no updates on the nids except my broodlord is looking more like he's leaping forward instead of yelling at the clouds (not v. stealthy i reckons)

and i spent a sickie building a 6x4 board out of old bits of kitchen cupboard.  the end result looks a bit frankensteinis h, but once i take to it with sealant, it shouldn't be a problem ^_^

18 gaunts are about done, starting on the broodlord and ten stealers he'll have infiltrating with him.

no pics yet, but i'll steal my flatmate's camera this weekend and see about getting my progress up on here.

gave my broodlord feeder tendrils too, really stoked how they turned out

thought he looked kinda like:

flatmate reckons its more:

grabbed my flatmate's 300D to take a few snaps, sorry for the fuzz i'm still trying to figure the damned thing out

anyways, the 18 finished gaunts:

and zoidberg:

him and his ten compatriots are all based and primed and the first coat of brown has hit them.  going to reverse the colour scheme that i did for the gaunts, which will hopefully make them easily distinguishabl e but also darker as befitting a troupe of infiltrators

Those are awesome. I'd love to get a closer look at them, I'm trying to decide on what my second army should be and the 'nids seem the best right now... Plus these are selling me more and more ^_^

i'll try and get some more pics up soon, probably by next week - the genestealers have most of their basecoats down, so its just high-lighting and detailing to go, and the broodlord's just about finished (was 30 mins late to work, cos of him Tongue)

i think i'm going to cave and start work on the 'fex too, he's sitting on my desk in black primer looking somewhat dejected with that wee tilt of the head he has.  poor bubba

lined up 22 hormagaunts to do next last night *sigh* its all gotta get done eventually i suppose

I'm liking the dark look of these guys, suits infiltrators nicely.

Making some good progress on these man, not looking forward to the factory line work? I find it easier to split marines etc. into groups of 5 and do them like that, product lining too many at once is a chore, if your doing on the fly mixing though it would be hard to be consistant I suppose.

yeah i split the first bunch of gaunts into groups of 6, overlapping my progress on them; ie, not just exclusively painting each batch to finish, rather just doing whatever takes my whimsy.

i usually get a bit of time in the morning, evening and before i go to bed to paint, so i'll make sure to at least do 5 using a single colour for each of these sittings.

heck, half the homries got the basing treatment this morning already, so they'll soon be ready for undercoating.

i could make the job easier by taking out 3 of them too - they're the old models that used to belong to logan and i'm undecided if they fit in with the rest of the brood or not.  they kinda do/kinda don't..

Looking very nice i can picture them sneaking through the bushes now, i think the dark red sets them off nicely. i hate batch painting anything, esp nids so so many little bastards and I'm very slow. loving your homemade wings mine came off an epic harrindon (giant gargoyle thing) but you cant get them anymore.  how long did the big carnifix take?

how long to build it?

yeesh i dunno man, i think i remember getting the kit back in march and tentatively started to hack away at it.  just spent the odd hour here and there to build it up and up till its what you see there.

he's actually got all his basecoats down and been drowned in devlan mud Smiley

how large were the harridan wings?  seem to remember that model being pretty tiny

they're not that small but it's more like he is moving on the ground with them folded than flapping. nowhere near as big as the forge world ones

so wait, is this the FW harridan you're talking about, or the epic one?

progress on the hormies is slow, but two are down.  the old ones look fecking rude.  like penis rude

but big bad carnie is now finished!

grrrr

rarr, die imperial fistssss

had a hard time with the carapace that i had greenstuffed, but i think i've made it work, and homeboy's most definitely ready for the table top
