I get a little confused myself sometimes.

GuardCon is the annual City Guard gaming convention (26/27 September this year).

Fields of Blood is the name of the Fantasy tournament held at that convention.

I think the confusion stems from the fact that your thread lists FoB as being held at TGS when GC is at Freemans Bay.

Ooooooooooooh! Gotcha. That's a shame I was thinking there was going to be even another tournament this year. Oh well.

Agreed. Further confusing the issue is that GuardCon (which FoB is held under) should be at Freeman's Bay but wasn't booked in advance and so is unavailable. Being at a different venue than "normal" doesn't exactly help people understand what the heck is going on.

This problem has apparently been sorted - Freeman's Bay has already been booked for GuardCon 2010.

The pack is done. I'm just nailing down the last of the (Cool comp judges in preparation for a dry run of the army selection scoring system to make sure there aren't any glaring issues, hideous anomalies and incomprehensib le discrepencies.

The player's pack is now available for download:

Fields of Blood player's pack

BIG thanks to the IF lads for their support in hosting the pack!

I will send out an email tonight with this link to the 49 people who have thus far registered their interest.

With general in-store advertising now going out around the country I suspect this tournament will blow past 60 players making it the biggest Fantasy tournament in NZ to date.

Hehe...

After seriously extended discussion with a range of players the tiers are what the tiers are. I'm happy with where the armies are tiered, the judges are happy, and the players I have chosen to consult are happy. I'm 100% sure my decision will not please everyone but this is not an issue for me as a TO. In essence the points separation between the tiers is small (in some cases .5 of a point) and the veto system will catch the absolute travesties.

In the end I got so sick of being hung up about comp I went with what I felt was appropriate - the game is about having fun playing with toy soldiers and being mates with other people of like mind. That's the priority vibe of the tournament and that's what I'd like the focus to be on.

Exemplar judging lists will be published shortly - this is a document of 50 lists from recent tournaments scored as a dry run by the judges. While it is certainly not definitive it at least gives players an additional guide to their potential score. Between the exemplar list scoring, the guidelines in the pack, the percentage weighting of comp, the tiering of armies, and the veto system I'm satisfied the job will get done.

clear, well explained, thoughtful, player pack.

tier system looks really good and balance (althought i felt empire should be tier 4). otherwise, it is one of the best player pack i have seen so far this year!
awesome dave!

Good looking pack Dave. I particularly appreciate the attention given to comp and painting scores. Well done indeed.

@ Simon - the Empire army is admittedly something that came up in discussion with the judges. It was felt that with the number of known Empire players this year (3 including myself) + the fact there is (only) a .5 difference between tiers it shouldn't make a big difference. Of greater concern was tiering them at the same level as Orcs and Goblins! Your positivity is greatly appreciated!

@ Ant - because of my mad dice skillz that help me recover from near disastrous maneouvering.

@ Dave - sob! I'm so alone!

@ Josh - thank-you! I hear TOs rarely get positive feedback so that is very flattering. I was quite determined to ensure that the painting scores have a real impact in this event - don't see the best painters get the points reward their work deserves that often.

"Smashing Philfy" is enough of its own reward - as my soft n fluffy HE army of last year showed when I managed the award for peoples favourite opponent  Grin Grin

18 paid and registered so far.

I love it how the people who ask this question are often the ones who haven't paid yet... isn't that right Mr Wu?!

As we're just over 2 1/2 months out from the event the lack of entries so far doesn't really surprise me at all. What will prove more amusing is all the locals who pay after the cutoff date for the lower price (4th August) because they are slackers who cannot get their act together. I'll post a list of exactly who has entered when I have a respectable number of entrants (30+).

Seriously though - what's up with people not being so keen to travel for Fantasy? Maybe it's your reputation for awesomeness Pete... thinking maybe Wellington should take the Fantasy event too and serve all the apathetic Aucklanders a hard lesson Wink

@ Darren - having just spent some more time in hospital myself I have great sympathy for your plight. No hassles, let me know.

@Dave,

Yeah you busted me Grin. My organisation factor has increased by .01 so I won't do a TS2 and pay on the day.

Always good to know the ensuing numbers for a bit of hype. Now I see that there might be a CHCH contingent all the more motivation to get some revenge... mwah ah ah Cool.

Orcs can't count past, wait, orcs can't anyway. So no problem for me there, come on greenskin scum, I am sure you could give me a decent scrap worthy of my mighty dwarf force.

Any who, I will be going to club this week and then sort out from there if  I will actually come and who else might come along, so at best I will have paid and registered by this friday.
