Yeah, so I had a game against Neil Williamson (a really great dude) and besides having a great game, I learnt (quite painfully) how powerful those cave squigs actually are.

So what do you guys do to get rid of them, they are not exactly easy to avoid, they are a skirmishing unit that is harder to shoot at, and its not like you can actually fight them.

Pleae remember that in general I use a dwarf army, so I am sort of looking for dwarf solutions. If I was using my skaven I would have more options, more fun (and a higher chance of blowing myself up) getting rid of the the cave squigs.

I wouldn't use a Gyro, as if you don't kill all of then, you''ll either loose the Gyro through combat, or have to flee. The Gryo is better off, march blocking and blasting their other stuff.

The Organ Gun is ideal however.

I find combined fire of handgunners, crossbow men, and a cannon at the unit is enuff to squash the herders and the squigs then jump all over the gobbos.

Yeah, I don't want to lose my gyro to cave squigs, that would make me look even sillier. (just a little).

I agree with the organ gun solution, but I don't have an ogan gun  :'(. So basically just down to my thunderers and rangers I guess. But, I was just wondering if maybe there was a way to sort of avoid them altogether?

I mean I only have five missle units (two BT's, a gyro, a unit of thunderers, a unit of rangers) so I was maybe wondering if besides taking a AoD as well, maybe there were ways you guys sort of "handled" them without shooting/magical blasting them.

I was thinking of maybe doing my best to force the OnG to release their fanatics through the hoppers of try and ensure that the fanatics and other units can sort of block them.

U can't FORCE them to release the fanatics through the hoppers, the owner decides which direction to release them.
also they can't be block becuase they are skmishers, the hoppers just move around the fanatic.

if u don't have a organ gun, then u can use your anvil of doom, if u don't have one, then u just have to shoot at them with your missile troops.

Are squig hoppers the ones that explode when they fail a leadership test?

I think I might be confusing them between the ones that have riders on and the one where they are actually in a unit. Squig hoppers are the ones that are ridden by NG's right?

Lone heros = dead hoppers

Dragons slayer with ASF
Anyone with a 1+ rerollable save

Also.... remind me why they are a probalem again??? Any Dwarf unit you care about should have static of 5. Hoppers will get 7 in combat.

Avg dice = 14 Attacks - 7 hits - 4 wounds - 1 save = 3 dead. Dwarves win by 2 and the hoppers feck off.

They're a problem, because they are bunch of nasty fungi/greenskins that have two WS4, S5 attacks. That's my friends is the situation, and how to avoid them is something I am going to have to work on if I can make it to FOB and going up against Josh.

@Fujin: Cheers mate.

@ Simon: Nah, it was Neil's squig hoppers that got a rear charge into my longbeards in the last turn and destroyed both the remnants of that unit and my general inside it, without me so even as being able to draw my axe.

So ironbreakers, AoD, and organ gun it is then.

Hhhm.. would squig hoppers need 6's to hit me if I was behind a defended obstacle?

T3, no save... big marshmallows with teeth.

Really, really nasty marshmallows with teeth. You should have seen what they did to some of the armies at NiCon, chewing up pegasus knights here, gorging on elf glade riders there, and rending limbs from innocent dwarfs right in front of a persons eyes.

Nope I tell you what Josh, you can bring your wyvren safe in the knowledge that its those pesky, pointy teefed marshmallows that are going to recieve all my missile attention. (There you go rangers, nice and safe in a big ol' building)
