Dont really need to do a whole thread i can post a link on how to do it. The link would be the way to do it for gw models. The bits i use are to make wagon loads for my trains like pipes boxes and so on.

http://www.starshipmodeler.com/basics/jc_molds.htm

I use these bits.

Woodland Scenics
C1204 - Latex Rubber (16 oz.)  To make the cast.

And to fill it anything i can find really plaster or resin, can get both from hobby shops like hobbycity.

Heres my major cost saver. Dont buy here in nz any more. Go to maelstrom games in the UK. So much cheaper and free postage on most orders. for instance the war of the ring book is now 110 bux. ordered it in for 80 bux..... Go to hell GW.

Yes, fight the power by buying GW product from a cheaper, independant retailer who buys all his stuff from........GW . That'll show 'em  Roll Eyes

Yeah I'm quite happy with Maelstrom, my ordered showed up in a little over a week, I notice on the tax invoice they just put 'Toy soldiers 10 pounds' so there is very little chance of getting stung by customs.

However I have a question in regards to purchasing off GW's webstore as there are some models I need/want that are only available there.

Can you make your order while the country is set to UK and pay in pounds yet still get it delivered to NZ? this would save 25-30% I noticed, anyone has done this?

Yes.  And whilst you pay for postage you also get a further discount when they take VAT tax off...  (at least they always used to...  to the tune of 17.5% as it was...  which actually made them a little cheaper than Maelstrom depending on the size of your order...).  Maelstrom don't take VAT off as they say its "included in the savings you make with free postage.  Which is a crock of @#*# and one of the things I don't like about them.  So postage overseas isn't actually "free" - you pay for it through them keeping the VAT.

That being said its easier to figure out what your "up front" cost is when buying from Maelstrom.  I actually tend (if making a purely GW purchase) to figure out how much it's going to cost me on Maelstrom - and then order from GW UK.  Saves me a pound or two LOL

buy your models in the early to mid 1990s when you still get pocket money and have a bank account at the bank of mum and dad best bank  ever open all hours. or build a time machine go back to the mid 1990s and buy modle when there where not so much a rip off

on a relervent note many stockist go bust as a group hitting one during its close down  sale and making a bulk purchace could save you some cash who remembers steves model shop in howick that cllosed down a few years ago and could of been a great oppertuinty apart from gw stores a reseshion is a good time to go shopping

I just noticed that Vagabond's have not increased some of their prices on the metal figures. Namely the Hydra is cheaper than anywhere incl maelstrom when you factor in our 15% disc.

Watch the exchange rate. GW NZ decide an exchange rate which doesnt always reflect the current rate. Currently the nzd is strong vs the gbp. So its most likley cheaper to by from uk then nz. Currently the gbp is 1 - 2.2 nzd where gw nz usually calculate this as 1- 3.

I was thinking about getting back into WH40k after many many years absent...but with the amount of $$ that GW wanted and then they go increase the prices again it was not to be for me until I came across Deathsquad.
a fan based game set in the WH4ok Universe but only needs 3- 17 miniatures to play....

you can find out more info here.
http://www.cityguard.co.nz/forum/index.php/topic,2611.0.html

I've made 6 squads so far for a fraction of the amount I would have had to shell out to buy a full scale WH40k army...

Cheers

6) Unit fillers

Want 20 high elf spearmen for your unit, but mean old GW is selling them in a box of 16? - a completely irregular size!  Get a 50m x 50m base and put something creative on it, and add it to your box of 16.  Now you have a unit of 20, ready to game with.

Just one thing: not a 50x50 base... it has to be a hand made base (60x60 or 60x40) to fit the unit  Wink

Just tried out the Quick-shade army painter strong-tone wash I ordered from Maelstrom games recently.  Its the one where you did your mini in with a pair on pliers.

The outcome was less than desirable, my mini looked like he had been rubbed down in baby oil (yes I did apply a matt spray varnish)...

So to anyone who thinks they could possibly save on a million pottles of devlen mud by buying this product would probably be dissapointed.  Unless...

you were going for a wet slimy look for your army eg Tyranids etc...

You need to paint that stuff on with an old brush mate.I used to dip models fulley into the tin and then shack off the excess, but you get a better result if you use a brush.

You also need to used dull coat rather than matt spray to get rid of the shine too.

Hi Guy's,

I recently bought a Hellpit abomination, and a bunch of other hobby stuff from  Wayland  Games,
http://www.waylandgames.co.uk/index.php

They were really good, they have a great range of Fantasy and 40K and seem to stock a more extensive range of GW models than Maelstrom currently do and they do it at a slightly cheaper price as well.

On the downside Wayland do charge for shipping but I have found it to be minimal, and the savings you make on the products more than cover it.

Jorin.
