Frankly I'm hoping that most of the VC and Daemon armies at FoB will get +/-0. I'm getting more worried about Lizardmen at the moment.

and dark elf..

Nah it's all good Simon - Scott isn't coming to FoB Smiley

When I started running events it was initially Historicals (hence the DBM).

Over the past 7 years, the DBM Ent moniker has organised around 40 events here in Wellington. It provides the necessary cash to book venues, order trophies and in the last few years buy terrain.

This year it will run Warpstorm, Maelstrom, Runefang, Horned Rat, Skitterleap, Braveheart, Fields of Blood and the Masters. It means that the local tournament scene isn't reliant on the local clubs.

Yep I got Double-Dixoned too, maybe we should start a club?  Cool

I went down 14-6 to both of them, both very good players.

I know I said it last year but I think that will be the end of my daemons for a while, if I can't get more than 1.8/5 for comp with a daemon prince, screamers & a single blood crusher in the list when others were doing better with 3 stegs & a slaan, star dragons, etc.  Then I can't see a point in taking them anymore...

Oh - and congrats to the winners and thanks to John Tailby for running the show.

3 Stegs and a Slann... kind of rolls of the tongue doesn't it? Shocked

That's quite a concession you've made Tony - I reckon a Daemon list that only has a Daemon Prince, some Screamers and a single Blood Crusher would be a challenge for anyone to use. Let alone get a win with.

Wouldn't you have been around 1600+pts short of the points limit? Didn't consider taking a couple of units of Flesh Hounds just to bulk things out?

How did you find the single Bloodcrusher?

I tried a Daemon Prince last night - Many Armed Monstrosity and the ASF gift. 16" charge isn't too bad really and with 7 str5 attacks he caned in combat. At 375pts he's not exactly points-optimised but he was still pretty awesome!

Also ran Screamers for the first time - they're good fun!

On the Prince? No, unmarked. No magical goodness.

Hm... the list I was running has very strong similarities to Tony's list.

- Prince (albeit with no magic/flying)
- Tzeentch Herald
- 20 Horrors
- 2 x 5 Furies
- 3 Screamers
- 4 Flamers

I also ran:

- Nurgle BSB in 16 Plaguebearers (no toys on Herald, no magic standard etc)
- 10 Bloodletters
- 5 Seekers with Siren Standard
- 3 Plaguebeasts (who spent the game in combat with 4 Dragon Ogres, lots of handbagging)

List ran really well against a very mobile WoC army (all mounted, double Knights etc). 4 Flamers was enough, the Seekers were great fun, the Nurgle BSB/Plaguebearers did their thing (although the BSB was lucky to survive the game after taking a unit of Knights to the face).

Would try dropping out the Tzeentch Herald for some Flesh Hounds next time I think and just running the two characters. The Bloodletters were a bit hopeless too but that was my fault for using them badly.

Not seduced by the dark side - just trying out something different and getting over my disappointment at missing out on playing at FoB Smiley

My prince costs 490pts and has 5 x s5 attacks with rerolls.  He's most certainly not hard enough to go into any other combat lord and stand much of chance (4W, T5, 5+ ward).  I can make him hit harder by giving him a flaming sword but that wouldn't have worked against 3 of my 5 opponents due to flaming immunity...

He doesn't cause terror and can't join a unit so he really gets relegated to clearing out light stuff and supporting charges.

He ended up dieing twice (both losses) and gave up 590vp each time and gave up 1/2 points in 2 of my other 3 games.

I absolutely would have been better off spending the 490pts on 2 heralds and would have had the same magic output and basically the same combat potential, and still would have had points for eather more flamers or 1 of the bsb level magic banners.

Bloodcrusher was ok - he died every game but was able to distract some fire from other targets and killed a couple of warmachines but that was about it.  Would have been better dropping him and running with 2 units of 3 flamers.

Screamers are shite - 3 of them die too easily, more can't land effectively.  I think they killed a few small things here and there but they really are a waste of points.

he never really lasted long enough to be used like that.  2W, T4, 4+ armour, he got bolt throwered 3 times and magiced / shot once.

with a 7" move he's a bit slow to get into the right place before he gets nailed.

James had a unit of 5 of them + herald which looked scary but was ultimately pretty easy to deal with.

Cheers for that Harry. Will have to run into you for a game at FoB. Your brothers list looks the business and has given me a few ideas to adjust my HE's.
Have you decided TK's or O&G for the tourney?

Yeah Joe is really enjoying playing that list, I was a bit surprised he didn't comp a bit higher than he did as well with Shadow Warriors and Helms in there. Knee-jerk Star Dragon syndrome I suppose...

Still deciding on what army to take, kinda depends on whether I can get all the Goblins + my other stuff into the one bag. The TKs just fit in carry-on...

Including some less than optimal choices isn't the same as forgoing the optimal choices altogether. What I like about the HE army is that it doesn't have the strong magic phase. But it isn't all that different from many, many HE dragon armies, the comp scores for which are quite predictable.

Well done again on your perfomance with the O&G.

Great to see Pete Williamson really stepping up his game - he's becoming a real threat on the battlefield by the looks of things.

I think ill take this as a compliment  Smiley

Was a great tournament, though i think painting was marked a bit harshly.. alot of players getting hit, with one recieving full marks? there were some really stunning armies out there ..

thanks John for running a great tourney,

Anyone got a copy of the results?

I have to agree that painting was marked harshly. My army got 6 out of 15 (IIRC). According to the marking guide in the players pack I would have expected to have lost only 4 marks for not having all my bases done. It is something I intend to point out to the TO, as it is very unfair to the people who got low marks. I thought there were an unusually large number of very well painted armies at CTA.

Painting:- 15%
The umpire will judge painting using a checklist system this will be converted into a
score that will make up 15% of the total score.

1. The painting on the models is detailed (e.g. painting is uniform and neat, details such as belts, buckles, pouches etc are completed) - 4 points

2. All models inked/highlighted (e.g. discernible shading and highlights present, the
highlighting/shading is neat and clean, some evidence of blending present etc) - 4 points

3. All models based and flocked - 2 points

4. Flock uses 2 different materials (e.g. static grass and rocks) OR made an above average effort on their bases (e.g. molded cobble stones for example) – 1 point

5. Army has consistent feel (e.g. similar colours, units have distinct variations but overall theme the same etc) - 3 points

6. Some models have been modified (e.g. clear conversion work to introduce variety –
includes such areas as green stuff/plasticard modifications, head swaps, arm rotations etc) – 3 points

7. Character/Centrepiece models are distinctive (extra effort has been lavished on the character or centerpiece models to make them distinctive) – 3 points

Thats the criteria that was published for the tourney.  Not 100% sure if that's what was used for marking.  And I would think that each "section" was marked on a scale of 0 - 1/2/3/4.

The players choice votes are not included in the published results, neither are the "best/fav opponent" votes either I think.

I was happy with "3rd" based on Judge painting - given I've a fair bit more to do to the army (as is my habit).  Was suprised at some of the other marks though I must admit.
