@ Joah - no real digs mate You did bloody well with the Orcs and Gobbos. I hope to make a good enough job of the Vampires to get top paint scores. If I can score the Steam Tank on Sunday we'll have a game

What? You need to tool the list up more just for me? Can I point out that I got far better comp than you already Mr arch lector twin great cannon cheese list of doom? Play like you've got a pair!

Not so much for you Josh but in general terms the Flagellents weren't worth it the way I am using them (the strong suggestion is to use them to pin a unit in place and get a good counter-charge in the flank of the engaging unit but the Flagellents bleed so much combat res I'd likely lose the combat even if I cancel enemy ranks and get a flank or rear!) and the Knights with Great Weapons, regardless of total suckage, are not gaining me any comp favours. If I'm going to take a hit I might as well take a good one and get more of an advantage in the game. As I will mention in my blog when I've summarised my experiences, I'm not totally displeased with my comp score but I am a little surprised that the army was judged to be harder than yours by so much. I felt your list would be a good comparative benchmark as we're on the same tier (err... are we? maybe Orcs and Goblins are a tier lower than Empire?) but your list included combat business and Terror-causers.

I think I'm seeing the fact that I'm taking Empire in the first place to be quite a concession and a struggling to see any measure of success I might gain by taking softer (read: Elector Count) Lord options. Although it did cross my mind to take a Warrior Priest as the general at Runefang (2 Warrior Priests, L2 Wizard, BSB) and go down the bound magic route some more (4PD, 2 bound 4s, 1 bound 3, 1 bound random (Volans)).

Empire are on the same tier as Tomb Kings Orcs and Goblins are on the next tier up.

For the record though, I think your empire is spot on for a well rounded, comp pleasing list.  If I stick at this hobby for long enough to get past elves, Empire will definately be next on the cards for me.

I like the Fens bases and movement tray surrounds so I'm making a list of what I will need for my next army. I'm going to do a Lizard theme and use swampy Fens Bases.
