I think this is an awesome idea in principle, but something tells me that the 7th Edition warhammer community may not be ready for this. Hard to say as i'm new to it, still, I would definately be interested in how it turned out. Maybe if the event was small and used as a pilot for a bigger contest later on. And would you allow special characters?

Well, to even things a bit, this is what we can do:
armies at lower tier, such s beastmen, Ogre Kingdom... allow special characters and armies at higher tier are not.
or
armies at lowest tier can prepare 3 different army lists, and can choose to use anyone of them depend on who they are facing.
armies at med tier can prepare 2 different lists and highest tier can only have 1 list.
another words, u can make list to kill daemon if u wanna.

A few years ago there was a tournament, which allowed something similar to this.
You had your core army and a small contingent which you could supplement/swap with.
I can't remember what the points value was, but I think it was like a 1500pt core and you could have 2 x 500 pt supplements. so as you went into each battle you choose which supplement you want to take.

Good stuff, the more the merrier I say. I wouldn't drop sports completely. The purpose of sports is to ensure that people conduct themselves well. A check list were the expectation is getting 100% is the way to go.
Also, why bother with special characters? Without comp you are asking for broken city by including them. Best left off the table IMHO.

It will be just like the UK GT, which I am going to this year.
Sports is no problem even without a score. Best incentive to ensure correct behaviour is a large stick.
If you are going to do it, do it properly, and allow special characters.

would like to give it a go if there are enough ppl dare to play. Antony did something like that last year but i wanna change it a bit...
this is what i had in mind.
entry fee: $5
2250 points, no special characters (can try with special characters at a later stage)
10 players, build the nastiest army you can possibly put together. Must use the same list every game.
send me the lists once completed and i will post them all up at the forum all at the same time, so your opponent know exactly what they are facing, and have time to think about how to deal with the armies.
10 players play against each other, can play on sunday at cityguard, during the week or whatever, u can arrange the time yourself. So each player will play 10 games.
After each game, send me the result in battle points, and i will post it up at the forum.
overall winner = highest battle points at the end of the 10 battles, and the winner will take the $50~~ simple.
anyone dare to give it a go??

If its before the end of June, I'd love to give it a go. It will be good to give my "no-comp" muscles a flew before I go home.

Def. boot Sports - otherwise it can become a stealth-comp... oh who am I kidding, it's because I'm the biggest jerk in NZ Wargaming and I don't want anything to cramp my style.
Anyway, I'm up for it. I'll start working on some lists... guess I need to finish assembling that dragon.

I'm not sure if i'll enter, I just don't physically own the models I would want to use. Also, I might have to play that jerk glenn patel - he's the reason sports scores were invented!

Yeah, 'physically owning the models' is a bit of a pain... I'm regretting my lack of a third Stegadon right about now.
(Why yes, I AM low enough to want to run three Engine of the Gods and a neo-Second Generation Slann... why do you ask? [the first draft for such a list has four deployments...
] )
(Knows entire lore, casts every spell FROM said Lore every single turn, plus nine dice throwing Heavens spells plus two one-shot bounds... generates 10 DD and has no reason not to run 4 dispel scrolls...)
(and, while admittedly unhappy if it faces down Ring of Hotek DE, has options)
(So yeah, definately torn between shooty Ring of Hotek Dark Elves, and cheesy Lizardmen... ah, it feels good to say that. Cheesy Lizardmen. And Cheesy Dark Elves. Ah... I played 'em before they were cool. )

that's fine, becuase at the same time expect flamers, bloodthrister, flesh hounds daemons, double stream tanks, alter, 3 cannons empire, all mounted bretonnias, anvil-dwarf warmachine gunline, unkillable dark elf lord on dragon, hydra, RBTs dark elves, double treemen BSB wood elf.....
so...
so far we got:
Dave grant
Derick
Glenn Patel
and my self...
and i'm pretty sure Antony and scott robinson will play as well. so we need 4 more??

Well I only own Tomb Kings models. I would enter this tournament if I had a second Catapult, more chariots, and maybe one or two other bits and pieces but I don't. I'm out for this one.

Just proxy or borrow a few models to proxy with. I have a spider chariot you could field... or check with some of the other guys. Actually I do have a few TK models.

3 Engine of Gods = Win
I'd prefer 2000 (or more) as I thought the point was to use all those models (Dragons, G Daemons...) you are too affraid to in a comp enviorment.

Don't back out Simon
You want a cheese fest don't do a lame 1950 game. Where the objective is to not have a lord and min rares. Unfortunately GW has as
a system where some books will screw with that intent. Over 2000 and then everyone gets a lord if they want it and not by the back door.
I'm in but don't worry guys i only have 1 dragon model (unless I go buy another
).
I'll even moan and throw toys (was gonna say dummy but may have been taken the wrong way with the unusual ending of this sentence) if I have a bad game in honour of the departing president.
Go no soft scores (I don't mean no Nik either. You are gonna enter aye Captain aka. New president
).
