The Throgg Thread
«

Well there is nothing to show off yet but the Conquest competition in Christchurch this year (around Labour weekend) is going to be 1950 pts for WFB and allow ONE special character.
I'm planning to take Throgg the Troll King (who allows Trolls as Core troops) and a fair sized horde of trolls (could get just over 40 if Throgg was the only character). Trolls suck big time but who could resist running such a big horde of them.
I have been collecting trolls for a while now, quietly confident that if I assembled enough in one place then a hole would be torn in the rules fabric of WFB and I would somehow be able to field them all (I am certain that it was my collection of 100+ ogres that lead to the Ogre Kingdom book being published).
So far I have:
16 Citadel/Marauder trolls
6 Fenryll trolls
2 Heresy trolls
Assorted troll-like ogres
Assorted cheapie $2 shop troll like figures (no sheep allowed)
So over the next 7 months I plan to paint these suckers up plus any other bits I require - no subs allowed from existing armies - whole brand new set of figures.
Long term thread but will post WIP details/pictures as they (slowly) happen.

The Fenryll trolls have been cut off their bases and put on to GW 40x40mm bases - working with resin figures is so easy (at least until painting time).
I have scored a heap of cheap "Monsters in my pocket" figures from K-mart. Some will find their way into the Black Sheep army, a couple will be Yhetees in my ogre army and a few will see service with Throgg.
Currently removing the "Made in China" lettering with a sharp knife
Someone out in the inter-web is working on a Throgg-like model that will hopefully be cast up in resin for general sale so I'm keeping an eye out for this.
Also scored a smaller troll figure from the World of Warcraft series that I am going to use as a half-troll chaos wizard.
I always enjoy the initial basing and undercoating but somehow the final painting is always a bit harder.

The cultist are Heresy figures (my favourite miniature company) - they need their arms added, which are carrying hooked polearms.
The tusked shaman is a War of World troll re-based and the dude swinging the bell is a Fenryll half troll.

The figure actually came with the bell. It's a resin mini and the bell was orignally on a short rope but it was soo fragile and also made the mini so large that I attached the bell directly to the hand

Jolly good fun, especially rolling on the eye of the gods table all the time!
Bit like playing an ogre army - if you didn't hit hard and together at the same time then you lost.

He flew in game four to take out a unit of ogre bulls.
Escaping from the rampaging Rhinoxen was entirely accidental

you can't use Enchanted shield on your mage since chaos scorcs don't have shield as an option. I think

Page 121
2nd half of the 3rd paragraph under magic amour.
"A character that is not allowed to carry ordinary shields cannot be given magic shields'.
Since the sorc dosint have the option to buy a normal shield he then he can't take the enchanted one...
Unless a FAQ says different.

Q. Can a Chaos Sorcerer or Sorcerer Lord use
magical shields?
A. Yes, they can. This is an exception to the
normal rules, and it is specified on page 106,
Using Chaos Magic, second paragraph

good observation ryan, but it's specific to the warriors of chaos army book.
Page 106, 3rd to last paragraph, "using chaos magic"
- 'Sorcerors are unusual in that they wear chaos armour and use magic shields or magic armour just like other champions of chaos'.
