Thanks for posting that up Ant, I was wondering how everything turned out. Very interesting results I must say, and it seemed like an excellent tournament. Esp well done to Phil Wu and Glenn Patel for great placings, and to Chris Townley for waving the greenskin flag high for all to see.
Speaking of which, does anyone know Chris's OnG army list?
Who won best painted?
EDIT: Fuj and Nick, what's it like being put in your place by fluffy bunny armies?

Glenn Tibbles won best painted with his lizzies
Chris's O&G was IIRC a savage orc looking list, with savage orcs, night gobs, spider riders... Dunno about characters though.

Yes... Best part is that it was only thanks to me generously allowing Nick to thrash me 20-0 that he managed to place where he did
Great tournament and Nick did a fantastic job running the show. Thought the venue was great - best Battlecry yet! Hope we see this tournament become an annual feature. I'm so inspired by Philfy and Tony's fluffy Dameons I'll be bringing soft and fluffy Vampires next year

I just noticed that the only reason you scored higher than Nick is because he turned out to be a cheesy bugger. Interesting to note that if Phil Comins had fully painted his army he would have placed in the top ten. If that's not a reason to wet the brush...

For those who don't know, its an incredibly converted army and what has been painted does not lack in the finesse department. It'll probably take out numerous painting prizes in the next few tournaments.

Well that is my worst placing by far to date!
As you have noticed, the comp judges and I had a very very different opinion on what constituted a soft WE list. I think Fujin will agree with the judges, but I hope others might not
As a counter argument, the 2250 version of the list (almost identical but with extra archers and Wild riders) got 4's almost across the board at OTT.
This was not helped by the fact that in 3 of my games I just rolled over and handed the game to the opponent due to big silly mistakes on my part... Better playing and less cockiness next time
I would have to say that I did not feel I was playing against particularly fluffy bunny armies, though this may be because my army was fluffier than normal, and luck of the draw.
Much appreciation to those who thought I was worth a best sports vote!
@ Josh -> No more comments about 'cheesy bugger' tarnishing my reputation

Actually I only needed to have HALF of it painted... neverthemind..
.. I wanted to "give it a run" especially since I NEVER playtest anything. Suffice to say that I have made adjustments, kept it reasonably soft n fluffy, and intend to have it done by FoB this year.
(yeah right.. make that FoB NEXT year)

Odd... can't help thinking that comment is being thrown in my direction somehow.
You should be thanking me Phil - if you didn't have my blog to read what would you do at work when you're taking a break from painting your Daemons?
I didn't feel your army was particularly cheesey Nick - as you said yourself it was a REALLY bad matchup
I was actually VERY surprised to see your comp modifier!

Nick, too late, You are a cheesy mo-fo.
Whilst your list (fairly) had good comp at OTT, fluffycons 'standards' were higher, therefore having some of the "usual" tricks (annoyance, hoda) probably hurt a bit.
Chris T Orcs were:
Lvl 4 savage orc on foot - stuff
Savage Orc BSB - stuff
Night Goblin Boss - protectyness, mushrooms
Night Goblin Boss - 15 pt sword (+1 WS, str,..), Enchanted Shield
24 SO Big Uns - extra weapons, FC, some banner
24 SO - spears, FC
20 Night Goblins: FC, 2 fanatics
20 Night Goblins: FC, 2 fanatics
2 snotling bases
2 x 5 Spiders
2 Bolties
6 Hoppers
2 Goblin Chariots
Giant
Pump Wagon

Nik_, I think your placing was contributed to by your appalling play
na, just Joking
I really think that the things that you usually excell at, the soft scores, were less of a factor in this event. So if most people scored 100% on paint and sports then the deciding factors are comp and battle points.

I think you hit the nail on the head :'( An army of all elves with a 'deathstar' type unit was MUCH more susceptible to making killer mistakes than I am used to. A good learning experience

No really, I was just joking.
You normally score the top out of sports and very highly in painting, giving you say a 10 point boost. Last weekend most people got max marks in both.

What was John Matthews OK army like, I mean to make it to 2nd they must have been laying some serious smackdown. (Yes I know WWE wrestling is fake)
What was the paintjob and comp like?

Nicely panted 15/15, good comp (+1 for Ogres = 20 better than most lists).
List was..... I think:
Bruiser
BSB
Butcher
Butcher
2 x 3 Bulls
2 x 4 Guts
3 Yetis
2 x 3 Belchers
Gorger
John finished 10th on battle, but the huge comp boost pushed him to 2nd.

When I played him I gave him a big Battle points boost, 18-2
I think it was 3 bulls and 1 unit 5/6 guts which had the Bruiser and the BSB
My Orc boyz charged the unit (with Shaman and Hero in same unit).
I got him down to one model of rank and file. My hero totally fluffed, I ended up losing combat and running away in turn 5.

Well at least I beat scott, the only other guy with a -12 comp modifier. And mainly because my army was painted, and his wasn't. Still, had an awesome time. Next year, i'll hopefully have expanded my collection of models enough to do some really fluffy things like including an icon bearer or something. We'll have to see.

For the record Luke... I'm not particularly sure why you got SO slammed on comp. Its not like you had the free reform banner on a unit of Tomb Guard? Granted 2x Scorpions + Skull Catapult are seen by some as unfriendly... but seriously *puzzled*
Or is it just that I never seem to have much trouble in getting big wins from TK's and hence am biased into thinking they are soft n squishy?

What was in the TK army?
Unlike Phil I do know how good TK can be, and what is powerful and what is not, and may be able to shed some light on the NCM.

TK on Chariot
LP on steed
LP
LP casket
20 archers
20 archers
9 Heavy Horse
5-7 chariots
2 Scorps
3 carrion
SSC
Something like that. You would have got hit for all the chariots and esp the casket. People freak over those. You would have got comp bonuses for the heavy horsemen though. It's not a soft list.

------------tournament: Fluffycon - Luke.B's Tomb Kings --------------------------
- tomb king - with light armour, flail & shield
- chariot
- chariot of fire
- Collar of Shapesh
- Sword of Might
- liche priest (heirophant)
- heiratic jar
- cloak of the dunes
- liche priest
- dispel scroll
- Dispel scroll
- skeletal steed
---
- 18x skeleton warriors (bows)
- 18x skeleton warriors (bows)
- 20x skeleton warriors (handweapon/shields)
- standard bearer
- 15x heavy horsemen
- Champion
- standard bearer
- war banner
- 3x Chariots
- 3x Chariots
- Standard Bearer
- Standard of the cursing wound
-----------------
- 3x carrion
- 2x tomb scorpions
--------------------
- screaming skull catapult
Direct from judges - they didn't like it because in the fluffy context my magic phase is too much. In combination with the chariots, archers, and skullapult it would be good in the hands of an experienced player. The list isn't restrained enough in terms of forgoing the good stuff in a TK list. Main fluffy things were the melee skeletons, heavy cavalry unit, and a couple of items here and there. So that's why.

11th place with only one win out of six - it's good to be a beastman.
It's also going to be nice to NOT be playing warhammer this weekend after Warclouds, Over the Top and Fluffycon - three weekends in a row.
19 games in a fortnight, 11 losses, 8 wins, two 4th placings and an 11th - I need a nap

Just out of curiosity for Phil. Your Daemons got +5 NCM and my Tk were -12. Suppose our game had gone differently, and I'd played better, and had a little bit more luck.
Hypothetically, I roll around the flank and kill the Fiend of Slaanesh this time, as well as wiping out the Flesh Hounds. Then, I pull off an amazing combo charge (on your bloodletters unit) with say, 6 chariots, 2 scorpions, my Tomb King.... maybe the big cav unit as well, depending on whether I think they are going to give me another +4/5 static cr or just give you an extra 5 wounds or not.
Who wins that one in the long run? The 5+ ward save and Daemonic instability rules are a pain. Even if I inflicted 10 or so wounds, you had that +d3 cr banner, and in the combat round after the charge I'd have no impact hits, everyone would be striking second, I would have to accept challenges, all of my units are affected by the combat res, while the bloodletters are just the one unit, etc etc
Any ideas?

That's why I've shelved my beloved TKs for now. They are hated by comp judges. There is no way that is a tough list. There is one hammer unit for Pete's sake! Urgh

It's not just the number of hammer units but amount of magic, shooting, speed, potential combos etc that combine to make a stong list.

I agree with the judges.
In the context of fluffycon that is a very powerful list. Its got enough shooting (esp when augmented by magic) to force anyone to come to you, and then some very quick/manauvreable flankers.
That list would do VERY bad things to any army without much armour, and could cope very well with any other list that I saw.

Geez Warne you're such a whiney little beyatch
If I hear you complain at NatCon about OGs getting the comp shaft I swear I'll be forced to do nasty things to a random Squig Herder. TKs are the shizzle. I half expect Pommy Dave to take them to Tin Solder 2, school everyone, and vicariously learn you a lesson. They have the goods for sure. In terms of comp I reckon Luke's list erred on the side of HARD for FluffyCon.
PS - Dave is the man and knows all. When the President of the ADC is willing to admit this then the truth is undeniable.
