Hello Guys

Firstly we all have to say a big thanks to the big man with his big stick  Grin Mr Wayde. And also a big thanks to Karen for setting up a very big and good Battlecry 2009.

I had a bad weekend of gaming with me not playing for over a year and not knowing anything about the new rules cost me alot of mistakes and losses, over all i still enjoyed it there was alot of nice good players there and i did not have a single easy game i can see the local players are improving alot no easy wins anymore.

I have opened this topic more for people to put there thoughts in and post some pics and so on, of some of the army's that were there and some input they could put in to help the people who set this up improve the event if needed.

And a Big Hell Ya for me wining something First time ever w00t.

(Its good when Regan is not around to get all the soft scores  Tongue Tongue Tongue)

Thanks All

I would just like to also add my thanks to Wayde and Karen for organising and running a great event. Although I finished mid-pack (as usual) I still had a blast (as usual). And I think we all learnt a valuable lesson:

I am Waiting on Wayde as he does need to find a PC to move the data over to the website as he said. I would give him a week or so and it should be up.

Or if someone is able to get a copy from him and post it up that would be fine or email me and i can do it.

So the results will be up soon, but please add in some comments things that where bad and good about battle cry as this will help the people who do arrange these to make things better and more fun for all.

Also not everyone could make it and some pics would be nice of the army's that played, myself is out of a cam so i was unable to take any. But i did see some people around with them taking pics. Same as above if you are not sure how to post them email them to me and i can do it. tindoor500@hotmail.com

Thanks All

I thought it was a great tournament as it was the first one I've ever participated in before.
Even though I basically came last everyone had a great time.
I just have one problem with the whole thing and that was the organization of who was versing who.
I myself found this out as a lot of other people did too. I played 5 Space Marine player in the weekend and me the person who played Necrons just so happens to verse the only other Necron player there.
My friend who plays Deathwing was also a little shocked when he to be playing another Deathwing player and after that a person who played Dark Angels. The next Battlecry needs to feature a little more variety in who you verse.

The issues with torneys is what people bring so you might find 50% of the field is all marines like it was almost, and how the system works out who plays who is all via points for like wins losses and so on, the first mission was mached up by how meny kill points each of you had, so like me i ended up vs a rhino army the same as me, but after the first round it is all based on points.

So if there is 5 out of 10 people playing marines and they all won there games and got the same amount of point, each would play a marine player.

What you find was the field has so meny marine armys and diffrent types and syles of marine players they go spred out over the whole board, so you had like me who lost most games always around the bottom and mid, you get a hand full that where always in the middle and the one or two up the top so there is always a high chance of you play marines.

You find people always play to what it hot at the time at torneys and with the new marine codex. every was runnig it, so people with other armys might fall sort and play the all day long.

It is the same when they bring out any codex everyone will play it so there is lots of armys around then it will die out and get a even spred across the board and then they will change something again and it will got back to the same thing.

Well if you'd enter a tournament expecting only to verse 50% Space Marines players in all your games I ended up playing around 85%.

i was not sure of how meny marine guys where that the 50% was just a number, but also me i played

Ork, Chaos (what is almost a marine), Tau, and marine, marine, marine.

So 50% of mine where marines.

but i dont see the issue all the marine guys i played all had very diffrent lists and all played diffrently,

Marines are classed as the mid level army so if you can beat them you are a average to good player. Also i have been playing marines for about 15 years and i very rarely win all my games i get owned by alot of other armys out there. They are hard to play and hard to master if you are a good marine player than can win torneys i take my hat off to you.

Time for my own two cents...

The pairings of who-vs-who in the rounds had nothing to do with what armies you were playing/had played and everything to do with battle points. In theory, your opponent of any round you play should have similar battle points as yourself (with the next set of criteria being that you haven't played that person etc).

While it is possible to have that level of round pairings so marines don't play marines etc, the amount of players in this year's tourney did not make this feasible. It would have meant players playing well up or down the battle points table purely to insure they didn't play their army/race.

If we get a bigger pool of players, it will be possible to arrange players to play other armies throughout the competition.

But really...what's wrong with a little training exercise between brother chapters...and next you'll be saying orks shouldn't fight orks...they fight everyone, especially themselves...a little civil war never hurt anyone. Maybe killed, but not hurt... Grin

i will be there next year for sure, hopefully with my new daemons army.
but will see how it goes, if there are suddenly ten daemon armys practicing for Battlecry '10 i might just take my orks, or even my dusty old eldar.
i did notice there was lots of like playing like but thats what you get sometimes when things are random, and i sure am glad i didnt have to play another chaos army, that plague marine army was slippery lookin'.

so if the new SM Codex is so great how come only two Goody Marines out of ten (just a guess) came in the top five.  Grin

had lots of respect for the kid with the Omega marines (purple) he was the only marine army to take the new tech' thunderfire cannon... man was it scary! killed 8 plague marines in one shot!

thanks to karen and wayde.

I remember seeing Greg pait up some of his Plague Marine army and it actual looked like a pretty simple paint sceme. A couple of shades of green and a coat of gloss. Very effective.

Well, I'll be back at Battlecry with my new Thousand sons army.

Hi Hunter,

try to relax about the opponents mate, The variety is nice but it totally depends on who is playing and how well...  The first time i entered a tounament with my darkEldar, I had five games in a weekend, 1 vs Nids (win yay me) and the next 4 vs Tau (4x major butt kicking - I still have nightmares), next tournament I played five different armies in five games and had a ball, the third time out I played three games out of five against Eldar, so it varies over time.

Down at Over the Top this year, I happened to draw, Orks, Tau, Ultramarines, Chaos and Black Templars... a really good variety and heaps of fun.

The key for me is to learn something from every game and ENJOY, the fact that I'm playing someone who loves this game enough to give up a weekend to play!  So you're playing Necrons - cool - (i'm trying to learn how to play with them)...  if you were the only one playing Necrons at the tournament then everyone else was looking forward to playing you... that's the key, ENJOY every game.

The issues with torneys is what people bring so you might find 50% of the field is all marines like it was almost, and how the system works out who plays who is all via points for like wins losses and so on,

Is there information available about who was using which army?  If so I can include this in the Army Rankings on the 40K Tournament Rankings web site.

The Player Rankings and NZ Regional Rankings were updated a couple of weeks ago, but if we can find out the army details from the event I would like to include those.

the first mission was mached up by how meny kill points each of you had, so like me i ended up vs a rhino army the same as me, but after the first round it is all based on points.

Great minds think alike.  I did the same thing (seeding first round by kill points) for the Gosford Shield 2009.  It still encourages players to think about number of kill points at army design time, and lets them practice the tactics of preserving kill points during games, but hopefully leads to more balanced games.
